Kloosterboer Lelystad officially opened

IJMUIDEN, 14 June 2019. Kloosterboer’s most recent, fully-automated, multi-user high-bay cold store in Lelystad (The Netherlands) is now officially opened. The opening was performed by Erwin Pardon (Regional President, Continental Europe MENA & Lutosa - McCain), Janneke Sparreboom (Lelystad Municipality) and Alex Kloosterboer (CEO Kloosterboer).

Total solution
Launching customer McCain chose Kloosterboer for the design, construction and operation of the new state-of-the-art cold store as a total solution by centralizing the stock for Northern Europe instead of dividing storage over four different locations. This centralization offers a significant reduction of CO2 per year.

Solution for the future
Automatic high-bay cold stores are the solution for the future, according to Alex Kloosterboer (CEO Kloosterboer). They offer many advantages for customers, such as: 100% tracking and traceability, real-time stock information, less labor and fewer mistakes. Compared to conventional cold stores, high-bay cold stores use about 50% less energy. As part of our sustainability policy, Kloosterboer is continuously looking for possibilities to be more self sufficient with energy. We therefore invest in sustainable energy, such as wind turbines and solar panels, and build new cold stores and expansions according to BREEAM requirements. The aim is to achieve the BREEAM “Outstanding” certificate for Kloosterboer Lelystad. The newest high-bay cold store in Lelystad has a storage capacity of 40,000 pallets with a trough-put of 400,000 pallets per year. The location can be expanded in the future.

Accessibility: key to success
For the Lelystad Municipality, the Kloosterboer establishment proves the city’s growing role and impact on companies that want to profit from the available space, the excellent accessibility and the ever-expanding level of services. ‘Accessibility is the key to economic success’, says Councilor for Economic Affairs Janneke Sparreboom. ‘Moreover, the speed at which we process establishment procedures for the business community plays a large role. The establishment of Kloosterboer is a great example of how the cooperation between Municipality and company leads to wonderful results,’ says the Councilor.
