Kloosterboer Velsen BV winner of EZK Energy Award 2017

On 29 January 2018, Kloosterboer Velsen BV was declared the winner of the EZK Energy Award during the EZK Event - Partners in Energy Challenges. They were awarded the prize of €25,000 following the sustainable expansion of their cold store.

EZK Energy Award

Since 2016, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate (EZK) has awarded the EZK Energy Award annually. Participants must consume at least more than 50,000 kilowatt hours of electricity and/or 25,000 m³ of gas per year. The entry requirements are: substantial sustainability of energy use through sustainable generation and/or energy saving, novel and innovative application of existing techniques and broad applicability.

Nominated Companies

The 3 nominated companies were:

  • Kloosterboer Velsen B.V.: expansion of cold store with 15,000 m2 BREEAM 5 Stars (Outstanding), including its own power generation using solar cells, DC motors and energy-efficient compressors as well as its own control software for optimisation of energy consumption.
  • Tempress Systems B.V.: the largest Bi-Facial Solar Park in Europe. Important innovation in the design and use of solar panels, with a higher yield and increased energy saving.
  • Rinos: Coir furnaces (for the manufacture of coir / coconut floor matting) converted from gas to electric in combination with solar panels. Creativity and resourcefulness in the conversion of old equipment with a good business case.
